About the Role

This is an exciting opportunity for a dedicated Food Technology Teacher to join a thriving and reputable academy in the Wakefield area. The post is a full-time, long-term maternity cover position, commencing as soon as possible, offering you a substantial role within a high-achieving Design and Technology department.The position requires a skilled and enthusiastic professional to plan, prepare, and deliver high-quality Food Technology lessons to students across Key Stages 3 and 4. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing a specialist food room, ensuring all health and safety regulations are rigorously followed. This is a crucial cover role that demands excellent subject knowledge, strong classroom management, and a commitment to maintaining continuity in student learning and progress.

Essential Requirements

Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent teaching qualification.
Strong knowledge of current Food Technology curriculum and assessment requirements.
Eligibility to work in the UK.
Enhanced Child DBS on the updated service (Willingness to apply for one)

Key Responsibilities

Plan and deliver creative and rigorous Food Technology lessons to Key Stage 3 and 4 students.
Manage classroom behaviour effectively to ensure a positive and focused learning environment.
Assess, record, and report on the development, progress, and attainment of students.
Maintain high standards of health, safety, and hygiene within the food preparation areas.
Contribute to the development and enhancement of the Food Technology curriculum materials.
Set and mark homework and internal assessments in line with school policy.
Provide engaging and accurate practical demonstrations of cooking and preparation techniques.
Attend departmental meetings and contribute to whole-school improvement initiatives.
Liaise with parents/guardians regarding student progress and welfare when required.
Organise and manage resources, ingredients, and equipment effectively within budget.
