From greenhouse gas reduction to innovative waste management, we don't just set goals—we take action. Our Engineering & Environment department is looking for a dedicated and knowledgeable Environmental Project Manager to help us turn our sustainability visions into community realities. This is a high-impact role for a professional who enjoys a mix of technical oversight and stakeholder engagement. Whether you are consulting on watershed planning or helping local businesses divert waste from landfills, your work will directly contribute to a greener, more resilient Leduc for generations to come. What is the Opportunity? Reporting to the Manager, Environment, the Environmental Project Manager is responsible for leading the implementation of the City’s key environmental initiatives. This role is the "engine room" for our Greenhouse Gas Reduction Plan, the Environment Plan, and our Integrated Pest Management strategies. You will act as a technical expert and a regional collaborator, ensuring our reporting is accurate and our projects align with provincial and federal guidelines. A significant focus of this role involves providing specialized oversight for contaminated sites, managing environmental site assessments, and developing risk management plans to safeguard our municipal lands and facilities. What will you do? In this multifaceted role, you will bridge the gap between policy and practice. You will: Drive the Waste Reduction Program for industrial and multi-family sectors by working directly with condo boards, property managers, and haulers to develop cost-effective sorting solutions. Lead the management of contaminated sites by coordinating environmental site assessments, developing groundwater monitoring programs, and overseeing remediation consultants. Execute the actions outlined in the Environment Plan. Act as a technical advisor to the Planning Department by reviewing biophysical assessments and subdivision plans to provide sound environmental recommendations. Represent the City of Leduc at regional stakeholder meetings. Manage environmental consultants from start to finish, including the development of RFPs, project scoping, and the technical evaluation of deliverables. Support the community through education, conducting school presentations, and seeking out grant opportunities to fund future environmental plan initiatives. Provide leadership and technical guidance to the Environmental Inspector, ensuring lot grading inspections and certificate approvals meet City standards. Who you are? You are a proactive researcher and a sophisticated communicator who can navigate complex legislation and diverse stakeholder interests. You bring: A Bachelor of Science or Engineering Degree, or a technical Engineering/Environmental diploma from a recognized institution. A minimum of five (5) years of experience in environmental technical work, consulting, or project management. Specialized expertise in contaminated site management, including experience with site assessments and remediation strategies. A strong understanding of environmental legislation and the ability to apply best management practices to municipal operations. Exceptional writing skills with the ability to produce high-level technical reports and recommendations for senior leadership. The interpersonal skills required to manage challenging stakeholders and lead collaborative regional meetings. A "systems thinking" approach, with the ability to manage multi-year budgets and project timelines effectively. What we Offer? Joining the Engineering team at the City of Leduc means working in a professional environment that values your expertise and your passion for the planet. We offer: A rewarding portfolio of work where you can see the tangible results of your environmental strategies across the community. A workplace culture that prioritizes work-life balance through flexible thinking, respectful collaboration, and a focus on sustainable workloads. Comprehensive support for your well-being through access to our Employee and Family Assistance Program (EFAP) and a free annual pass to our city recreation centre. Competitive compensation and a comprehensive benefits package, including a defined benefit pension plan and extended health and wellness supports. The opportunity to lead innovative projects, from watershed planning to "green bin" pilot expansions, in a rapidly growing municipality. A collaborative and supportive team environment where your technical advice is valued and your professional growth is encouraged. Important Notes! The successful candidate must provide a current Criminal Record Check & Driver’s Abstract at their own expense. Please include a cover letter detailing your experience with contaminated site management and environmental site assessments. Ready to Join Us?
