About

[What the role is] As Singapore advances its clean energy agenda, natural gas continues to play a vital role in our energy landscape. Natural Gas powers about 95% of electricity generation; Town Gas is piped to over 900,000 homes and businesses; and Hydrogen has the potential to be a key decarbonisation pathway of the future. As a member of the Gas System Department, you will be part of the dynamic team overseeing the planning and development of Singapore's gas infrastructure over the medium and long-term horizon, to effectively deliver continued adequacy and resilience. [What you will be working on] Together with the team, you will: Plan and develop additional infrastructure (e.g. import or network facilities) needed to meet gas demand. This includes overseeing new and ongoing projects, and reviewing the existing system to ensure its continued efficiency, reliability, and stability; Shape the energy infrastructure masterplan to guide Singapore's energy transition, and establish functional requirements for new infrastructure; Work with developers and consultants on technical feasibility studies, front-end engineering & design, etc. leading up to Final Investment Decision for the needed infrastructure; Evaluating the feasibility and trade-offs of different approaches, balancing factors such as energy security, demand, costs, and decarbonisation; Advance understanding of new gas technology/equipment, and assess their suitability for Singapore; Support engagements with other agencies to secure land and pipeline corridors to enable the deployment of both natural gas and low-carbon gas infrastructures. [What we are looking for] Requirements: Be proactive towards learning and problem solving. Exhibit strong analytical and critical thinking skills, to be able to distil complex information, assess trade-offs, and propose practical solutions. Have good communication skills – concise and coherent. Possess strong interpersonal skills, to work well with a range of stakeholders both within and beyond the public service and understand their different perspectives. Be driven and resourceful, whether working independently or as part of a team. Candidates should have a background in engineering, preferably in mechanical, chemical, or electrical engineering. Candidates with relevant experience in infrastructure planning and/or the gas or process industries will be viewed favourably. https://jobs.careers.gov.sg The Singapore Public Service plays a key role in the economic growth, progress and stability of Singapore by formulating and implementing government policies, as well as providing key public services.
