The Role

As an Employability Adviser, you will join our supportive and hard-working team in either Carlisle, Workington or Barrow-in-Furness to work with unemployed adults to provide employability support or careers information, advice and guidance.

In this role, you’ll play a key part in supporting people to achieve their career and employment goals by providing tailored 1:1 advice and guidance, working closely with them to help them explore their options, building confidence, and developing the skills they need for work, education, or training.

What You’ll Be Doing:
• Empowering individuals with expert employability support and career advice, motivation, and confidence-building strategies
• Delivering intensive one-to-one support, helping participants identify their strengths and transferable skills
• Facilitating engaging group sessions to support job search strategies and skills development
• Support individuals to identify and overcome barriers that may stand in their way
• Keeping up to date with the local job market and building relationships with employers to create opportunities for customers
• Keeping up to date with local labour market information to ensure customers have access to the right information and opportunities.
• Managing your own caseload, ensuring each customer receives ongoing support and guidance
• Meeting and exceeding targets, making a tangible impact on people's lives

About You

Whilst we would be delighted to hear from you if you have previous experience of working in the employability sector, or if you have a level 4 Careers Information Advice and Guidance qualification, we are also interested to hear from people who have worked in other sectors where you’ve relished the opportunity to achieve a personal target whilst excelling at providing outstanding customer service, as long as you can demonstrate an understanding of the local labour market and an understanding of what it takes to support unemployed adults to secure sustainable employment.

You will be able to demonstrate:
• A good standard of literacy and numeracy (GCSE grade 4 / C or equivalent);
• An appreciation of the benefits and an ability of using digital tools to support customers;
• The ability to identify, establish and maintain effective working partnerships for the benefit of customers;
• The ability to keep accurate and up to date records with a good attention to detail. This includes data entry on electronic systems;
• Strong communication skills and the ability to respond to demanding pressures and to meet deadlines;
• An ability to work on own initiative and a proactive approach to problem solving.

As our work focuses on supporting individuals in securing employment, it is essential that candidates demonstrate the ability to produce high quality CVs and cover letters, and/or job applications. Your ability to meet this standard will form part of our selection process.
