  • Position Summary
  • The Tech I Mechanic is an entry-level fleet maintenance position for individuals with at least two years of experience as a mechanic or recent graduates from a diesel technical school. This role requires fundamental knowledge of truck, vehicle, trailer, and equipment maintenance, including performing basic repairs, servicing components, and assisting senior mechanics. The Tech I Mechanic is expected to work independently on routine tasks while continuously developing skills for advancement.
  • Key Responsibilities
  • Perform basic maintenance and repairs on automobiles, diesel engines, trailers, loaders, forklifts, and skid steers.
  • Conduct fluid checks, oil and antifreeze extraction for analysis, and lubrication of equipment according to specifications.
  • Inspect, replace, and maintain belts, filters, hoses, tires, and other basic components.
  • Operate fleet equipment at a basic level as needed for maintenance and repairs.
  • Use basic hand tools properly and maintain them in good condition.
  • Locate and follow repair procedures in trade manuals.
  • Maintain parts inventory, assist with ordering, and support shop organization.
  • Assist Tech II and Tech III Mechanics with more complex repairs and diagnostics.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment following all safety protocols.
  • Complete work order repairs using a computer or tracking system.
  • Work collaboratively as part of the fleet maintenance team, demonstrating strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • Qualifications
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience as a mechanic (automotive, diesel, or heavy equipment).
  • OR recent graduate from a technical school with relevant coursework in fleet maintenance.
  • Must own basic hand tools suitable for performing mechanical repairs.
  • Ability to perform physical tasks, including lifting, bending, reaching, climbing, and handling tools and parts.
  • Valid state driver’s license (must obtain a Class A Commercial Driver’s License within the first year of employment).
  • Strong work ethic, attention to detail, and ability to follow safety protocols.

  • Compensation for this position is $25.00 - $32.00, depending on experience.
