Position Summary: Under the direction of the Project Manager, the Design Technologist researches, designs and reviews a variety of Municipal Engineering Projects. Responsible To: Project Managers Supervises: N/A Responsible For: Co-ordinate research, prepare detailed design, construction drawing layout of storm and sanitary sewers, watermains, roadways, sidewalks, parks, cemeteries, and related documentation for Municipal projects and subdivision proposals using CADD - Civil 3D and manual methods. Maintain, set procedures and produce Engineering construction drawings using CAD, in accordance with City of Niagara Falls Standards. Preparation of quantity take-off calculations, cost estimates, all applicable approval forms, contract tender forms and specification for a variety of projects. Review and process technical comments, design drawings, calculations, and tender documents for sewer, watermain, roadway, sidewalk, parks and subdivision projects completed by consultants. Prepare and revise as required Master Lot Grading Plans for subdivisions. Complete cost sharing calculations for projects. Maintain, operate and set procedures for computerized Municipal infrastructure and modeling software. Establish, maintain, coordinate and ensure design and drafting standards of all Technicians are in accordance to City standards. Co-ordinate the purchase of supplies and equipment through the Project Manager. Assist Staff on Engineering Studies and to process and follow up on complaints or requests from the Public or other City Departments as assigned. Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned. Position Requirements: Minimum is a three (3) year college diploma in Civil Engineering Technology. Class “G” drivers’ licence. A minimum of three (3) years Municipal engineering experience in the design of sewer mains, watermains, roads and stormwater management projects. Experience in the use of AUTOCAD and CADD, Civil 3D. Eligible for certification as a Certified Engineering Technologist. Working Conditions: Standard office environment (site visits throughout the year). Equipment and Tools Used: Basic drafting equipment, CAD workstation, calculator, personal computer with general engineering software.
