About Us
- Fifth Dimension is bringing vibe working to document-heavy industries 🌈. Today we work with real estate businesses in the US, EU and APAC, automating complex tasks, extracting valuable insights from documents, and empowering professionals to focus on high-impact work. Our AI workspace transforms how large investment managers and developers handle leases, development documents, and investment decisions.
- We're a London and New York based startup with an ample runway, backed by Tier 1 European and American investors. Our founders, Johnny Morris and Dr. Kate Jarvis bring a powerful blend of expertise (and spice 🌶️): Johnny has 17+ years applying data and analytics to Real Estate, while Kate holds a Stanford PhD and 12 years of executive experience across Silicon Valley and London startups.
- At Fifth Dimension, we're demanding yet encouraging, valuing experimentation and kind challenges. Our company values, Own It, Ship It, and Don't Be Boring, drive us to deliver exceptional results while fostering a culture of innovation and continuous improvement.
- The Challenge
- It's 9 AM on a Monday. You're reviewing session recordings from last week's release and notice users hesitating at a critical interaction—you've already sketched three alternatives in Figma before standup. By noon, you've built a working prototype in code that reimagines how users navigate large document sets, complete with fluid animations and thoughtful micro-interactions. You demo it to the team and a customer success lead—their reaction tells you everything. By Wednesday, you're on a call with a major real estate firm, watching how they actually use the platform day-to-day, and you spot a UX bottleneck nobody had articulated yet. By Thursday, you've designed and started building the solution—no handoff, no waiting. By Friday, you're celebrating with the team as a customer tells you: "This just feels right."
- About You
- You're a designer who ships. You live at the intersection of design and engineering—equally comfortable in Figma and a code editor, and you believe the best design decisions are made when you can see them running in a real product, not just in a static mock.
- You have an exceptional eye for visual design, interaction design, and information architecture. You obsess over the details that separate good products from great ones—the easing curve on a transition, the hierarchy of a dense data table, the way an empty state guides a new user. You understand that in an AI-powered product, design is doing the heavy lifting of making complex, powerful capabilities feel simple and trustworthy.
- You're a strong frontend engineer—proficient in React and TypeScript, comfortable building responsive, accessible, performant interfaces from scratch. You don't just design components, you build them. You're energised by the blank canvas of being a founding design voice—establishing visual standards, interaction patterns, and a shared design language from the ground up.
- You're proficient with AI coding assistance tools like Claude Code, leveraging them to accelerate development and focus on higher-level design and interaction challenges. You understand that modern engineering means effectively collaborating with AI to maximise your productivity and creative potential.
- You have sharp product intuition. You know how to talk to customers, read between the lines of a feature request, and make pragmatic trade-offs between polish, speed, and scope. You understand that great design in an enterprise context means solving real workflow problems, not just making things look pretty.
- Your Impact
- Reporting to our CTO Chen, you'll be our first dedicated design hire—bringing design rigour and frontend craft to a team of strong product engineers who've been building fast. You'll own the design and frontend quality of core product areas end-to-end, establish the visual and interaction standards that the rest of the team builds on, and move quickly between experimentation and production. Working closely with our engineering team and commercial stakeholders, you'll combine deep design expertise with strong frontend engineering skills to build experiences that are powerful, intuitive, and genuinely delightful for enterprise customers.
- Day to Day, You Will
- Design and build in one flow: Move fluidly between Figma and code—you own the full journey from concept to production-ready UI, eliminating the handoff gap that slows most teams down
- Set the design direction: You'll be the first person in this role—establish the visual language, interaction patterns, and design standards that the product and team grow into. Move fast, experiment boldly, and iterate based on what you learn
- Talk to customers regularly—watching how they work, understanding their mental models, and translating those insights into interfaces that feel effortless
- Prototype rapidly to explore and validate ideas, using code-based prototypes when fidelity and interaction matter more than static mocks
- Build production frontend: Write clean, performant React/TypeScript that ships to customers—not throwaway prototypes, but real product code
- Make AI feel intuitive: Design interaction patterns for agentic workflows, streaming outputs, document processing, and data extraction that make powerful AI capabilities accessible and trustworthy
- Collaborate with product engineers and backend teams to shape the roadmap, define API contracts from a UX perspective, and ensure the full stack serves the user experience
- Leverage AI coding tools like Claude Code to accelerate development workflows
- Champion frontend quality: Accessibility, responsiveness, performance, motion design—you care about all of it and raise the bar for the team
- Raise the team's design instincts: Help product engineers develop stronger UX awareness and visual sensibility—you'll be the person who makes everyone care more about the details
- Invest in your own growth by taking on ambitious design and technical challenges and expanding your expertise
- Our Values and Engineering Culture
- At 5D, we embody three core principles: Own it, Ship it, and Don't be boring.
Our engineering team values
- Product-Minded Engineering: Understanding the "why" behind features and using technical expertise to inform product decisions
- Intellectual Honesty: Backing discussions with data and acknowledging knowledge gaps
- Effective Time Management: Setting clear timeboxes and abandoning approaches that aren't working
- Clear Communication: Writing self-documenting code and providing detailed explanations
- Innovation Mindset: Forming well-reasoned opinions backed by data and continuously learning
- Personal Growth: Supporting your development through challenging work and opportunities to expand your expertise
- What We're Looking For
- A portfolio that proves it: Show us shipped products where you both designed and built the frontend—we want to see your design eye and your code in production
- Experience in high-growth startups or fast-paced tech environments
- Strong visual and interaction design skills—typography, colour, layout, hierarchy, and motion
- Strong React and TypeScript skills with a track record of shipping polished, customer-facing UI
- Proficiency with Figma and AI coding assistance tools (Cursor, GitHub Copilot, Claude Code)
- Demonstrated product instinct—you've shaped what gets built, not just how it looks or how it's implemented
- Experience designing for complex, data-rich interfaces (tables, dashboards, document viewers, multi-step workflows)
- Intellectual curiosity and honesty—digging deep into problems and sharing findings openly
- Ambition and resilience—we're a seed-stage company tackling ambitious challenges
- Nice to Have (But Not Required)
- Experience designing AI-native products (chat interfaces, agentic workflows, streaming UIs, copilot patterns)
- Mobile development experience (React Native or native iOS/Android)
- Experience with animation libraries (Framer Motion, Lottie, GSAP)
- Background in real estate, law, or finance
- Experience with user research methodologies and usability testing
- Contributions to open-source design systems or frontend libraries
