- The Investor Relations and Communications Team spend as much time together as possible, in the office, with our businesses, at our events or with investors and other stakeholders. We primarily work out of 5 Howick Place in Victoria, London, spending three days a week together at a minimum, but often four or five, whilst also ensuring everyone has the flexibility they need to balance work and home life in the best way possible.
- Job Description
- Informa is currently seeking an exceptional candidate to become its new Deputy Head of Investor Relations.
- We are seeking an ambitious, experienced investor relations professional who can step into the role and pick up the reigns quickly, working closely with the Director of Investor Relations and rest of the Senior Management Team to maintain and further develop the Company’s excellent investor outreach programme and relationships with shareholders.
- The ideal candidate will already have Senior Investor Relations experience, most likely with a background in financial markets and/or financial communications, with the confidence, skills and knowhow to deliver all aspects of the IR function seamlessly.
- The Role
- Reporting to the Director of Investor Relations, Corporate Communications, Sustainability & Brand, the Deputy Head of Investor Relations will help to direct, manage and deliver Informa’s investor relations and financial communications activities. From development of core narrative and messaging, producing communications materials, through to marketing the equity story and pro-actively managing relationships with analysts, shareholders and the wider investment community, the role encompasses all aspects of the Investor Relations function.
- At Informa, the Investor Relations department plays a prominent role in the development and implementation of Group strategy. The Director of Investor Relations is a member of the Executive Management Team, reporting directly to the Group Chief Executive and attending all main PLC Board meetings, ensuring shareholder interests and market perception are at the heart of all major decisions taken by the Group.
- The Director of Investor Relations also has wider responsibility for Corporate Communications, Brand, Sustainability and Real Estate, with the different teams working collaboratively to ensure a consistent message is projected both internally and externally.
- Furthermore, the Director of Investor Relations is currently based out of Dubai for an extended period, working on a new partnership agreement for the Group, whilst the other member of the IR team is based in the US, focused on building out the Group’s US shareholder base.
- This puts even greater importance and responsibility on the Deputy Head of Investor Relations, who will lead efforts on the ground in London. The successful candidate therefore needs to be a self-starter, with the confidence and experience to take on responsibility quickly and work independently at times, whilst also collaborating closely with a broad cross-section of Colleagues.
- Key Responsibilities
- The Deputy Head of Investor Relations is a senior role, requiring an experienced and confident executive who is comfortable taking the lead on projects and initiatives and liaising closely with Senior Management, different functions and businesses across the Informa Group and with investors.
The successful candidate will be expected to
- Work closely with the Director of IR to set and drive the agenda on Investor Relations. The Deputy Head of IR needs to be an indispensable partner to the Director of IR, taking responsibility for delivering in all areas of IR, being proactive in getting things done and ensuring everyone is well prepped for meetings
- Lead the IR function on the ground in London, meeting investors and analysts in person and managing local relationships both on their own and with other members of the team
- Develop core narrative for the financial community, reflecting strategic objectives and focus of the Group and aligning it with wider internal and external communications plans
- Engage and strengthen relationships with existing equity shareholders, fielding queries, promoting and adapting the core narrative
- Pro-actively identify and nurture relationships with other equity investors in the UK and overseas
- Manage sell-side analyst relationships, fielding queries, managing perception, narrative and consensus financial expectations
- Liaise closely with the Finance department to maintain alignment of market consensus expectations with internal forecasts, identifying discrepancies and spotting opportunities for improved reporting or useful data sets and analysis
- Draft and edit external press releases and presentations for results, acquisitions, investor days and other financial communications
- Work with the Communications, Finance and Co-Sec teams to draft and develop the Annual Report, including project management of the Annual Report production process and delivering key content
- Produce a periodic IR Report summarising IR activities, peer Group newsflow for the Informa PLC Board
- Work proactively on developing other IR materials eg website, digital, social media
- Work with the Group Treasury team in the management of debt investors, including the public ratings agencies
- Build a direct relationship with the Group Chief Executive, Group Finance Director and Executive Management Team, providing advice and input on market perception, reaction, risks and opportunities in relation to strategy, investors and general news flow
- Provide input and advice to the PLC Board on market reaction and perception, governance and other matters relating to the investor community
- Keep abreast of peer group developments and investor activities, providing views on any implications, read across or opportunities for Informa.
- Qualifications
- The candidate should have strong senior experience in either an IR / finance / treasury / communications role within a large corporate, accountancy firm or consultancy, or as an analyst, broker or banker within a financial institution
- ACA / CIMA / CFA or other relevant financial qualification an advantage
- Existing relationships with analysts and institutional investors an advantage, as is any knowledge of Informa, Live Events or the broader Media sector
- Experience of dealing with and working closely alongside the C-Suite and Senior Executives in Corporates, Financial Institutions or Advisors
- Skills and Abilities
- Proactive, energetic and outgoing personality, comfortable dealing with a broad range of different stakeholders
- Self-starter, with a low ego but with ambition and an eagerness to take on responsibility and accountability for projects, look around corners and work through challenges and problems
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with a passion for meeting people and storytelling
- Strong written communication skills are critical, with the ability to deliver high quality drafts and edit financial releases and other materials
- Financially literate with a good understanding of financial models, valuations and ratios
- Strong skills in building and developing both internal and external stakeholder relationships, including at a senior level
- Flexible approach to working, comfortable with shifting agendas and changing priorities, and equally focused and committed at delivering the mundane but necessary tasks within investor relations, as well as the fun stuff!
- Ability to manage a budget responsibly and effectively
- Ability to prioritise workload and work to tight deadlines under pressure
