As a Databricks/ Power BI Report Developer you’ll play a key technical role in shaping how Squadron Energy improve their data pipelines and executive reporting across our renewable energy business. This role is a contract role and can be based in either Melbourne or Brisbane office. What sets this opportunity apart? You’ll be delivering meaningful Business Intelligence using our brand-new Databricks data platform, designed from the ground up using next-generation cloud-native architecture. Harness the power of Databricks AI Assistant and Genie, using natural language prompts to generate SQL and Python code, and natural language exploration of data and analysis and generation of dashboards. Design and deliver dashboards within Databricks and Power BI. Leverage Microsoft Copilot internally to supercharge productivity and streamline problem-solving. Collaborate with high-calibre teams of data professionals and business stakeholders to deliver insights that matter. The Role Reporting to the Analytics, Compliance and Lifecycle Manager, you will work closely with our Lead Reporting and Data Analyst to help define business needs, transforming these into robust designs and delivering fit-for-purpose data pipelines and BI solutions. Connecting teams to data through prototyping solutions before delivering automated outcomes, this role will assist in delivering end-to-end Business Intelligence solutions for Squadron’s fleet of assets across a broad range of operational data sources. Your output will be diverse across a range of skills, focusing on the production and enhancement of data pipelines, models and reports to form an integrated suite of reliable Business Intelligence solutions for the business. This role may involve travel to other office locations and sites to engage and liaise with broader Squadron Energy (SQE) teams and relevant stakeholders. Key responsibilities: Power BI Report development, via simple prototyping through to fully automated production data pipelines and models. Develop complex Reports, Apps and Dashboards in Power BI to produce clear and insightful visualisations to aid effective business decisions Design & build scalable pipelines: Develop and manage data pipelines on Databricks to ingest, transform, and load large datasets efficiently. Optimize performance: Tune Spark workloads, cluster configurations, and storage strategies for optimal speed and cost. Data quality & governance: Implement data quality checks, lineage tracking, and governance frameworks to ensure reliability and compliance. ETL/ELT development: Create modular ETL/ELT workflows using Delta Lake for reliable batch and streaming jobs. Automation & CI/CD: Implement automated testing, orchestration, and deployment for continuous integration and delivery. Take ownership of issues, incidents & enhancements and drive to successful outcomes with minimal or no supervision. Solution design and data architecture oversight Experience in thinking outside the box and utilising non-BI technical solutions to better enable our customers is highly regarded, notably demonstrated experience in PowerApps and Power Automate. Gather and document business requirements and translation to deliverable User Stories / Epics through detailed data analysis. Produce and maintain clear documentation for pipelines, procedures, models and reports, including technical and business user documentation. Facilitate the expansion of self-serve analytics and future Databricks solutions Mentor data analysts on tools, processes and coding standards. Time management to balance delivery of current business reporting needs with automation and improvements of future-state reporting and analytics tools About you This role requires creative solutions to business problems and keeping experience in current technologies (Databricks). The ability to foster strong relationships and have a strong customer focus with the ability to communicate clearly, accurately, and persuasively is critical. You must have: Demonstrated knowledge of Databricks and Power BI Experience Knowledge of databases, entity relationship modelling, and dimensional modelling Experience designing data solutions, architecture, and configuring security Skilled in building and optimising complex Power BI reports and semantic models Familiarity with real-time data systems like SCADA and Historian Operational reporting and analysis experience in energy / asset-intensive industries Proficiency in SQL, Python, R, DAX, MDX or similar, translating complex logic into stored procedures, views & indexes Strong data visualisation skills using Power BI, Tableau, or Grafana Ability to communicate effectively with operational, technical, finance and commercial teams.
