About
- This position is posted by Jobgether on behalf of Hugging Face. We are currently looking for a Data Technical Architect, MongoDB Sharding in EMEA.
- As a Data Technical Architect, you’ll take on a hands-on leadership role designing and scaling a mission-critical MongoDB infrastructure. You’ll work closely with engineering and product teams to architect solutions that are both performant and reliable, while directly contributing to the application codebase when needed. Your expertise will shape data modeling, query optimization, and best practices that empower teams to build effectively at scale. This role offers the opportunity to work on large-scale, high-impact systems in a collaborative, remote-first environment, while staying deeply involved in both strategic and technical execution.
- Accountabilities
- Collaborate with engineering and product teams to design and evolve the end-to-end MongoDB architecture with a focus on scalability and performance.
- Implement and optimize MongoDB sharding in production environments, making informed decisions about shard key strategies.
- Contribute directly to the application codebase to refine the data access layer, queries, and services supporting the architecture.
- Define and promote best practices for schema design, query performance, and data modeling.
- Act as a subject matter expert for diagnosing and resolving complex database performance issues in production.
- Develop automation, scripts, and documentation that improve developer efficiency and safety when working with the database.
- At least 4 years of experience in data engineering or architecture with strong expertise in MongoDB.
- Hands-on experience designing and implementing MongoDB sharding in live production environments.
- Strong programming skills in at least one modern language (Typescript/Node.js preferred), with experience working on application codebases.
- In-depth knowledge of MongoDB internals, including aggregation framework, indexing, replication, and storage engines.
- Proven track record of working effectively in cross-functional teams and driving consensus on technical solutions.
- Excellent asynchronous communication skills with the ability to document and lead technical discussions.
- Nice to have: experience with IaC tools (Terraform, Pulumi), MongoDB Atlas, PostgreSQL, Redis, Elasticsearch, or large-scale migration projects.
- Remote-first role with flexibility to work from most EMEA locations.
- Competitive salary plus equity options to share in the company’s long-term success.
- Comprehensive health, dental, and vision coverage for you and your dependents.
- Flexible working hours, generous paid time off, and parental leave.
- Professional growth support, including reimbursement for conferences, training, and continuous learning.
- Opportunities to collaborate with leading experts in AI and data engineering.
- Option to visit company hubs in Paris or New York, with workstation support provided for remote employees.
- Inclusive, diverse, and supportive team culture focused on equity and belonging.
