Role purpose The key purpose of the Data & AI Governance Analyst role is to play a critical part in shaping the organisation’s ethical, secure, and efficient use of data and AI. This role entails developing and maintaining governance frameworks, policies, and standards to enhance data quality, safeguard sensitive information, and ensure compliance with evolving regulations. By implementing strong policies, delivering customised training, and conducting thorough audits, the analyst promotes organisational accountability, transparency, and trust in data-driven decision-making and AI adoption. In this pivotal role, you will play a key part in shaping how data and AI are managed, protected, and responsibly adopted across the business. You will help develop and embed governance frameworks, policies, and standards that ensure our data and AI initiatives are ethical, secure, and aligned with evolving regulations and organisational priorities. Why This Role Matters To meet our Data & AI strategic objectives, we are expanding our capability in governance and stewardship. This role will be essential in developing our AI Risk Framework, enhancing our Data Stewardship program, and ensuring that our teams have the guidance, training, and tools they need to use data and AI safely and effectively. What You'll Be Doing Data Governance Develop and implement data collection and usage standards. Oversee the full data lifecycle—including definition, implementation, and audit. Drive the rollout and maintenance of the enterprise data catalogue. Define and embed data ownership and stewardship responsibilities. Deliver training and education programs to uplift data governance literacy. AI Governance Champion the ethical, responsible, and transparent use of AI. Develop and implement AI usage standards and risk controls. Deliver training that helps teams confidently and safely adopt AI tools. Conduct audits and risk assessments relating to AI usage. Support the business in identifying and mitigating AI-related risks. Your Key Stakeholders You’ll collaborate closely with: Business Leadership Team Department Heads Legal, Risk & Compliance Architects, Engineers & Data Platform teams Data Scientists & Application Specialists Solution Managers and other domain experts Experience & Capabilities Essential Experience Strong experience in data governance frameworks, standards, lifecycle management, and cataloguing. Proven understanding of AI governance and ethical AI principles. Experience conducting audits and managing risks related to data and AI. Skilled in crafting and delivering training programs for diverse audiences. Demonstrated ability to align governance practices with business strategy. Critical Knowledge Deep understanding of data governance methodologies (e.g., DAMA-DMBOK). Knowledge of AI ethics principles (fairness, transparency, accountability). Familiarity with privacy legislation and compliance requirements (Australian Privacy Law, GDPR). Knowledge of data cataloguing technologies (e.g., Alation, Collibra). Awareness of emerging AI risks, including bias and model transparency challenges. What You Can Do Build, implement, and enforce robust governance policies.
