The Role:
We are looking for a highly capable and enthusiastic Cover Supervisor to join and support staff. Your primary responsibility will be to manage classrooms and facilitate learning when the regular teacher is unavailable, ensuring that pre-set work is completed and that a high standard of behaviour is maintained. This position requires adaptability, strong authority, and a passion for working with young people aged 11-16.

Key Roles and Responsibilities:
- Oversee and supervise student learning in a variety of subjects (e.g., Maths, English, Science, Humanities) by delivering instructions left by the absent teacher.
- Actively patrol the classroom to monitor student engagement, answer procedural questions, and pre-emptively address potential disruptions.
- Strictly enforce the school's behavioural guidelines to ensure the safety and right to learn for all students in the class.
- Manage the logistical elements of the classroom, including distributing and collecting resources, equipment, and students' completed work.
- Mark student attendance accurately using the school's electronic registration system (training provided).
- Liaise with the Head of Department or relevant staff to report on lesson progression, notable student achievements, or any serious incidents.
- Support the general operations of the school when cover is not required, assisting administrative or departmental tasks as directed.
What We're Looking For
We need an engaging and robust individual who can quickly build rapport while maintaining a professional distance and authoritative presence.
- A confident presence and exceptional voice projection, enabling you to command and control a busy classroom environment effectively.
- Prior experience managing groups of young people (e.g., youth work, sports coaching, tutoring, or previous school experience) is highly valued.
- Strong literacy and numerical skills to understand and accurately relay lesson instructions across all curriculum areas.
- A flexible and calm temperament, enabling you to manage unexpected situations and behavioural challenges with professionalism.
- Reliability and excellent time management skills to ensure you are ready to start lessons promptly and transition smoothly between classrooms.
- A firm commitment to upholding the school's standards regarding dress code, conduct, and all safeguarding policies.
- Proficiency in using basic IT tools (e.g., email, electronic registers) is necessary for daily duties.
