About

About the Role

Are you confident, adaptable, and passionate about supporting young people? We are looking for an enthusiastic Cover Supervisor to join our friendly and committed team at De Aston School. This is a key role in maintaining continuity of learning when teachers are absent.

You’ll supervise classes across a range of subjects and year groups, ensuring students stay on task and complete the work set by their teachers. While you won’t be expected to teach new content, you will manage the classroom, uphold school policies, and provide guidance to help students succeed.

This is an excellent opportunity for anyone considering a career in education—we’ll support you with training and development, and even help you take the next step into teacher training if that’s your goal.

Key Responsibilities

Supervise students and ensure work set by teachers is completed.
Maintain a positive and productive learning environment.
Respond to student questions about processes and procedures.
Collect completed work and return it to the appropriate teacher.
Manage classroom behaviour using school strategies.
Support students with special educational needs and disabilities.
Ensure safeguarding and health & safety standards are upheld.
Keep accurate records as required by the school.

What We’re Looking For

Excellent classroom management skills.
Strong communication, organisational and interpersonal skills.
Ability to foster a positive learning environment.
Enthusiastic, resilient and hardworking.
Experience working with young people (11–18) in an educational setting is desirable.
GCSEs (or equivalent) in English and Maths preferred.

What We Offer

A warm, welcoming atmosphere and a genuinely supportive team.
Excellent CPD opportunities to help you grow professionally.
A school culture centred on evidence-informed teaching.
A good work/life balance and leadership that values staff wellbeing.
Modern facilities and a vibrant, successful 11–18 comprehensive school at the heart of the community.

Further Details

This is a term-time only position (39 weeks per year), with 5.6 weeks’ paid holiday included in your salary.
Hours are 32.5 per week, Monday to Friday, 8:30am–3:30pm.
Salary is Point 9 (£19,527 actual, FTE £25,989).
The closing date is 9am Thursday 4th December 2025, with interviews on Thursday 11th December 2025 (we may interview earlier).

Safeguarding

De Aston School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. All posts will be subject to an enhanced DBS disclosure, medical and reference checks. All pre-employment checks are in line with Keeping Children Safe in Education.
