Position Details
The Course Evaluator, Accelerator will be based out of a home office located anywhere within the contiguous United States (Pacific, Mountain, Central, and Eastern time zones) or United States territories that fall within the Atlantic time zone.
Position Overview
The Course Evaluator ensures the success of participants in the New Leaders Aspiring Teachers Accelerator program. In this role, you will provide competency-based evaluation support for specific courses, assisting adult participants in demonstrating proficiency in programmatic and course-specific competencies through assessment feedback reports. The Course Evaluator reports to the Executive Director, Product Management & Content Development.
Specific Responsibilities
Evaluations & Feedback
- Apply subject matter expertise and experience using a rubric to rate participant performance to achieve a secure, valid, and reliable determination of competence for degree programs
- Provide comprehensive, personalized written feedback to participants on their performance tasks aligned to course competencies to support students in progression through their degree program
- Commit to and ensure timely evaluation as defined by New Leaders
- Propose and collaborate on new methods and procedures for assessment evaluation
- Provide support to Course Instructor or Program Mentor to resolve student concerns
- Enter ratings and feedback in Learning Management System
- Ensure written feedback is actionable, strengths-based, and aligned to specific performance indicators within the rubric
- Identify and elevate students who need additional support to Program Mentors and Course Instructors
- Participate in norming sessions, calibration exercises, and inter-rater reliability checks to ensure consistency in evaluation
- Engage in ongoing training to maintain fidelity in rubric application
Content Development
- Contribute to the development of assessment content, practices, and competencies to achieve organization-wide goals (as assigned)
- Propose and collaborate on new methods and procedures for assessment evaluation (as assigned)
Effective Execution
- Participate in training sessions and professional development activities to support effective execution.
- Participate in team and cross-functional meetings to support effective execution (as assigned)
- Utilize salesforce, LMS, and other technology tools as needed to support student affairs
Ethical Practice & Data Integrity
- Uphold FERPA and institutional policies related to student confidentiality and academic integrity
- Maintain ethical standards in reviewing, scoring, and documenting student performance
- Report suspected academic dishonesty or integrity concerns in accordance with program guidelines
Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Competencies
- Educational Background: Master’s Degree or Ph.D. from an accredited institution that meets accrediting agency standards for providing instruction
- Preferred fields of study include Teaching or Curriculum & Instruction, with concentrations in areas such as Special Education, Reading/Literacy, Math, Science, Social Studies, Multilingual Learning, Child Development, or Classroom Management
- Professional Experience: Minimum 7 years of relevant professional experience required.
- Minimum of 3-5 years of K-12 classroom teaching experience required to teach certain courses
- Team-Driven: Proven ability to collaborate effectively with individuals across a variety of backgrounds and experiences; must be results-driven while maintaining a collaborative and inclusive leadership style.
- Mission Alignment: Passionate belief in academic excellence for every student, aligned with New Leaders' mission.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with diverse student populations
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
- Willingness to engage in regular self-reflection and re-evaluation of beliefs, perspectives, and approaches to improve outcomes
- Strong active listening skills and emotional intelligence with the ability to build relationships with adult students
- Demonstrated ability to discern evidence of competency within student submissions, including unexpected forms of response
- Demonstrated ability to use technology, adapt quickly to new processes and manage complex cognitive loads
- Experience teaching online is preferred
- Track record of success implementing adult learning principles and best practices is preferred
- New Leaders requires each employee to be fully vaccinated with a COVID-19 vaccination (i.e., at least two weeks have passed since the employee received the dose of a single-dose vaccine or the second dose of a two-dose vaccine with at least the minimum recommended interval between doses) or to obtain an approved exemption or reasonable accommodation through the Human Resources team within six weeks of their start date as a term and condition of employment.
- Variable-hour employees must have a computer meeting the following requirements to ensure security and compatibility:
- Operating System Version: The device must run an operating system that is fully updated to the latest version available for its platform.
Web Browser: Google Chrome must be installed and used as the primary web browser for accessing tools and platforms.
Device Encryption: Device encryption must be enabled.
Firewall and Security Software: Up-to-date antivirus, anti-malware, and firewall suite must be installed and active on the device.
Password Policy: The device must be protected with a strong password or passcode pursuant to instructions provided by New Leaders.
Internet Speed: The device must have access to adequate internet speed for work needs, with a recommended minimum internet download speed of 50 Mbps and upload speed of 10 Mbps.
Web Camera and Microphone: The device must be equipped with a web camera and a microphone for video conferencing and communications.
Time Commitment
- Must attend virtual training sessions, refresher courses, and meetings when required
- Must be available to complete the full scope of any assigned assessments for scoring except for authorized modifications
- This role may require some work to be scheduled during evening or weekend hours
Physical Requirements
The employee's routine activities involve sitting, talking, hearing, and using hands for tasks like typing, filing, and handling objects. Visual acuity is necessary for keyboard use, data analysis, transcribing, computer terminal viewing, and extensive reading. The role may involve ordinary ambulatory skills for visits to other locations or the ability to perform activities like standing, walking, lifting, carrying, and moving light-weight items. Proficiency in hand-eye coordination, along with dexterity in arms, hands, and fingers for tasks like grasping, operating standard office equipment, and learning technical information, is essential.
