About the role; The Control Consultant is responsible for providing support and oversight of the operational control environment for the designated practice areas. The Consultant displays a balanced, cross-functional perspective, collaborating with the business and relevant Northern Trust counterparts (e.g., Risk, Legal, Compliance, Audit, etc.) to improve efficiency, control effectiveness, and productivity. The Consultant has knowledge or expertise typically gained through formal education or equivalent experience and uses this provide guidance to the business on risk and controls. The Consultant operates under general supervision but works independently with control & practice managers to actively execute control best practices and advise on risk treatment and control enhancements. Regular activities include performing risk-based control reviews, executing effective design and operating test execution to support issues management and change management, advising on the business continuity plan and any identified gaps, and executing in-depth analysis of risk events to identify root cause, thematic trends and to propose and recommend solutions.
