Cook/Chef - Heswall Primary School
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Cook/Chef to join the team at one of our primary schools in Heswall. You will play a crucial role in providing nutritious and delicious meals for our students, ensuring they are well-fed and ready to learn. This is a term-time position, offering a great work-life balance.
Pay: £14.50 - £16.00 per hour, depending on experience.
Duties and Responsibilities:
As a School Cook/Chef, you'll be responsible for the full catering operation, including:
- Menu Planning: Creating varied, healthy, and appealing menus that comply with government nutritional guidelines and cater to a range of dietary needs and allergies.
- Food Preparation & Cooking: Preparing and cooking meals from scratch using fresh, seasonal ingredients for a large volume of pupils and staff.
- Kitchen Management: Managing stock levels, placing orders, and adhering to a set budget to ensure cost-effective operations.
- Hygiene & Safety: Maintaining impeccable standards of food hygiene, cleanliness, and kitchen safety in line with regulations.
- Team Leadership: Overseeing kitchen assistants and other catering staff to ensure a smooth and efficient service.

Skills and Qualifications Needed:
To be a successful candidate, you must have:
- Essential: Proven experience as a Cook or Chef, with significant experience working in a school environment.
- Food Safety: A strong knowledge of food hygiene and safety standards, preferably with a relevant Level 2 or 3 Food Safety in Catering qualification.
- Organisational Skills: Excellent time management and organisational skills to manage a busy kitchen and deliver meals on a strict schedule.
- Communication: The ability to work collaboratively with school staff, including the headteacher, and be approachable to students and parents.
- A passion for healthy eating and a genuine interest in providing nutritious meals for children.
