About
Appeer was set up in 2019 by neurodivergent women and parents of autistic daughters to provide an autistic-nurturing space for autistic girls, teens and women (and those assigned female at birth) to connect with others and explore their interests and talents on their own terms. Core to our mission is a 'positive peer approach' and a whole family ethos, and alongside all our activities we also facilitate peer support among parents and carers. Autistic girls and have historically flown 'under the radar', often leading to social isolation, a lack of opportunity and prospects and sadly often to low self-esteem and a range of mental health problems. Our non-profit organisation seeks to fill this gap in support and provision, nurturing their unique needs, interests and challenges to enhance their confidence, wellbeing and their prospects for leading rewarding, happy lives and futures. Based in Woking and serving Surrey and surrounds, we run monthly Girls and Teen activity Sessions, a weekly Alternative Provision for autistic girls and teens who are out of school or home educated, online gaming Sessions, a young women's group, work experience for teens and ad hoc Sessions in the community. We are about fun with a foundation of wellbeing; we provide a supportive setting for autistic girls and women to enjoy their genuine selves in an authentic community.
