A well known public sector organisation is currently recruiting a Capital Accountant for a 9 month maternity cover. Based in central London, they offer hybrid working with 3 days in the office per week required. This will be on a day rate basis which will be inside IR35. This would be £587 per day umbrella/ (or PAYE equivalent of £446 per day) About the Role As Capital Accountant, you will lead on technical and financial accounting matters related to public sector funding arrangements. You’ll provide expert financial advice and modelling to support major projects, including whole life costing, options appraisals, and business case development. This is a high-impact role where your insights will influence strategic decisions and drive sustainable service improvements. Ideally you would need to have either Capital experience or sector experience within another local authority. Having both would be highly desirable. You will need to be a team player, sometimes having to role your sleeves up and get involved with occasional administration duties where required. Key Responsibilities Deliver high-quality financial support to complex projects and stakeholders.Lead on financial modelling, forecasting, and strategic planning.Prepare corporate financial statements and ensure compliance with accounting standards.Support change management and contribute to long-term financial strategies.Manage competing priorities within tight financial constraints.Collaborate with senior officers, elected members, and external partners. The ideal candidate A CCAB qualified accountant with significant experience in financial and management accounting within a large, complex organisation.Skilled in providing strategic financial advice and translating organisational drivers into action
