  • As a Backend Engineering Team Manager, you will lead and mentor a team of engineers responsible for developing high-quality, scalable backend systems. You will play a pivotal role in aligning technical execution with strategic goals, ensuring smooth delivery of product commitments, and fostering a culture of growth and collaboration. This role requires balancing hands-on technical knowledge with people management skills, guiding engineers through challenges while promoting professional development. You will collaborate closely with Product and Design teams to translate roadmap priorities into actionable projects. Working in a fully remote, international environment, you’ll help drive process improvements and maintain high standards for code quality, scalability, and reliability. Accountabilities

  • · Lead and support a backend engineering team, focusing on delivery, technical excellence, and people development.
  • · Mentor engineers, promoting continuous learning, career growth, and a culture of coaching.
  • · Collaborate with Product and Design teams to ensure roadmap commitments are delivered iteratively and efficiently.
  • · Establish delivery estimates, monitor progress, and help the team resolve blockers and challenges.
  • · Own recruitment, hiring, and onboarding processes to strengthen the team’s capabilities.
  • · Facilitate regular one-on-one meetings, goal setting, performance evaluations, and continuous feedback.
  • · Promote documentation, knowledge sharing, and open communication across a globally distributed team.
  • · Contribute to process improvement initiatives in a remote-first environment, ensuring high team productivity and engagement.
  • · 7+ years of software development experience, including 2+ years in engineering leadership.
  • · Strong backend development background (e.g., Ruby, Python) with the technical depth to support engineers.
  • · Experience with databases (PostgreSQL preferred), caching systems (Redis, Memcached), and background processing (e.g., Sidekiq).
  • · Knowledge of software engineering fundamentals, best practices, and CI/CD pipelines.
  • · Understanding of scalability, reliability, observability, security, and incident response practices.
  • · Proven ability to lead teams, guide engineers, remove blockers, and ensure delivery commitments are met.
  • · Strong organizational, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
  • · Experience fostering a positive, diverse, and inclusive team culture.
  • · Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science or a related field.
