  • art-K is the UK’s largest private art education service, delivering fun, skill-based classes to over 7,500 children each week. Our programme helps develop artistic skills, build confidence, and support mental well-being through inspiring projects taught by passionate educators.
  • At our Putney branch, the Assistant Art Teacher is responsible for delivering the classes and supporting running the studio, supporting our Art Teachers in running sessions and maintaining the studio, helping create the best possible experience for our students. Full training is provided in our teaching methods, with ongoing support from the studio’s Art teachers.

This is a part-time role with a fixed schedule during term time and adjusted hours during school holidays

Term Time: 7 hours 30 minutes per week on the following schedule

  • Saturdays 8:30 am - 4 pm
  • School Holidays (14 weeks/year): The same number of hours will be worked between Monday to Friday, 9am–5pm, with the exact daily schedule varying based on the needs of the studio.
  • Salary: £5,168.80 per annum.

  • Teaching & Child Development
  • Deliver engaging, skill-based art programmes in a fun environment with high teacher-student ratios
  • Adapt lessons to suit individual learning needs and support students’ long-term artistic development
  • Monitor and evaluate student progress, creating personalised learning plans where needed
  • Create a safe, nurturing, and inspiring studio environment for students to thrive
  • Communicate regularly with parents to provide updates on student progress and development
  • Training & Professional Development
  • Receive face-to-face training on art projects from Kathryn, our Creative Director
  • Participate in a structured training programme covering teaching methods, child development, and art education
  • Continue developing your own artistic skills to support high-quality class delivery
  • Access bespoke training opportunities to support your growth
  • Studio & Class Support
  • Support studio growth and operations through admin tasks, customer communication, stock management, event coordination, and maintaining studio organisation
  • Assist with outreach and marketing, including social media support, community events, and tracking performance to drive retention and attract new students
  • Assist in class preparation and studio upkeep, including setting up materials, sharpening pencils, washing brushes, cutting templates, and displaying artwork
  • Maintain a clean, organised, and inspiring studio space, including window displays, posters, and visual merchandising
  • Help ensure studio compliance with health, safety, and child safeguarding policies
  • Cover & Additional Support
  • Provide cover for classes in the absence of the branch manager, including taking attendance and leading sessions
  • Assist with or lead holiday workshops and art parties, both at the studio and off-site
  • Opportunity to offer occasional support to nearby branches during staff absences, holidays, or training
  • The Ideal Candidate
  • Holds an art degree or equivalent experience across a range of artistic mediums
  • Has experience teaching or working with children in creative or educational settings
  • Communicates clearly and empathetically with students, parents, and colleagues
  • Demonstrates strong art skills and a proactive, positive attitude
  • Works well independently and as part of a team
  • Has a track record of long-term commitment in previous roles
  • Lives within 30 minutes of the branch or reasonable commuting distance
  • Is flexible and willing to assist at nearby branches when needed
  • Is committed to ongoing growth and development in the role
