About

About The Role

  • At Next, we’re not just one of the UK’s most recognisable retailers — we’re also home to a thriving consumer credit business with over 3 million customers and £1.3 billion in assets. Our Credit & Risk Finance Team plays a vital role in understanding and driving the performance of this business, providing clear financial insight that shapes the future of Next Finance.
  • We’re looking for a commercially minded Assistant Accountant with strong SQL and Power BI skills to join our team. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who enjoys problem-solving, data-driven analysis, and working at the intersection of finance and technology.

What you’ll be doing

  • Running and enhancing financial models underpinning the Next Finance balance sheet and P&L, delivering insight into c.£180m profit per annum.
  • Using SQL and Power BI to build, automate and maintain dashboards and reporting tools.
  • Preparing clear, insightful KPI analysis for senior leaders to inform key business decisions.
  • Supporting the month-end process, including reconciliation and analysis of balance sheets.
  • Assisting with forecasting and financial appraisals for new Credit projects.
  • Analysing debt management and supplier costs to identify efficiencies.
  • Championing continuous improvement through smarter data and process solutions.

About You

  • 2+ years’ experience in a finance or finance related analytical role.
  • CIMA/ACCA part-qualified (or equivalent).
  • Proficient in SQL, Power BI, and advanced Excel.
  • Confident in building financial models and presenting analysis to stakeholders.
  • Naturally curious — keen to dig into data and uncover what’s driving performance.
  • Detail-oriented, collaborative, and proactive in driving change.
  • You don’t need to tick every box — what matters most is your drive to learn, your curiosity about how things work, and your passion for delivering insight that adds real value.
