We are looking for a talented technician to join our clients Advance Power Systems department; a team building and scaling the next generation of technologies, products and services.
Role Type: 12-month contract, potential to be extended
Pay: Up to £19.60 per hour
Hours: Monday to Friday, 08:00 to 16:30, some discretionary early and late working will be required to meet customer deliverables
About the Role
We are seeking a self-motivated and team-oriented individual for our clients advanced product research and development team. This is a highly visible position where you will apply deep technical knowledge alongside hands-on mechanical and electrical skills. You will be working on electrification, Powertrain, Diesel, and hybrid power systems within our clients Europe Research and Development Centre (ERDC). The role involves working with lead engineering to review data and sign off work
Job Responsibilities and Duties
Take responsibility for our advance power system development programs.
Work closely with APSD engineering leads to meet product and technical objectives.
Support activities with internal customers and external service suppliers.
Provide detailed feedback, measurements, and issue updates to engineers.
Conduct direct build, strip, and measure activities on electrification, powertrain, diesel, and hybrid components.
Perform sub-assembly and testing as required.
Conduct electrical safety checks (e.g., Insulation resistance, ground bonding, Hi-Pot checks) and use tools like CANape.
Run direct testing activities based on engineer instructions, using multiple test bed software programs.
Interpret test plans and data to sign off products ready for shipping.
Support data analysis using analysis software.
Raise and report on product concerns using the Pre-Production reliability development process (PPRDs).
Support Continuous Improvement by reviewing safety procedures, processes, and quality metrics.
Collaborate with the Facilities engineering team on facility requirements.
Required Qualifications and Skills
Applicants must have relevant qualifications , preferably a full modern apprenticeship (electrical/mechanical bias), BTC Higher Award in Test, ONC/HNC, or a Degree , and/or equivalent job-related experience.
An Electronics/Electrical background in an accredited curriculum OR an HNC with at least 6 years of demonstrable experience.
Excellent respect and adherence to Health & Safety, following risk assessments and standard work instructions.
Excellent interpersonal skills, including learning, communication, and teamwork.
An excellent problem solver with the ability to diagnose, repair, and rebuild across multiple disciplines.
Experience in a build workshop environment, working to product drawings or engineer's design requirements (EDRs).
Experience in power system level performance.
Experience using testbed software, calibration tools, and test data logging systems.
Hands-on experience with past engine and transmission testing.
Experience using advanced diagnostic techniques and tools.
This role requires travel opportunities to customer sites and other test facilities. Travel is mainly in the UK, with a very small chance of Europe travel. (A valid passport is essential for this position.)
A full, clean UK Driving licence is essential.
